Rachel Zegler commented on the online discourse over the casting of the Snow White remake.

Rachel Zegler, the star of Disney's live-action Snow White movie, has seen enough of the online backlash surrounding the movie's cast.

Previously, it had been revealed that Zegler was starring in a live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. At the time, there had been some trolls on social media complaining about the casting, unhappy with seeing a Latina incarnation of the Disney princess. Recently, new set photos emerged of Snow White's reimagined seven companions consisting of varying sizes, ethnicities, and genders. That too sparked some online discourse with some on social media, leading to a response on Twitter from Zegler herself.

While she's happy with the fans who've come to her defense with others online criticizing the Snow White cast, Zegler is kindly asking for everyone to refrain from tagging her in any more of these social media conversations. Sharing some images of herself dressed as a princess as a child, including one in an actual Snow White costume, Zegler said, "[I'm] extremely appreciative of the love i feel from those defending me online, but please don’t tag me in the nonsensical discourse about my casting. really, truly do not want to see it. [So I] leave you [with] these photos! hope every child knows they can be a princess no matter what."

The images from the set of Snow White's companions reveal how Disney is handling the portrayal of the characters following previous criticism from Peter Dinklage. When the Game of Thrones star said that the project was "backward" for casting a Latina actress for the lead while including stereotypical dwarf characters, it was announced that Dopey and pals would be reimagined as "magical creatures." It wasn't until these recent set photos leaked when it was revealed that they were a group of seven unique friends with mixed appearances.

Along with Zegler as Snow White, the new movie also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Marc Webb directs the film using a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. It is a remake of the original animated Disney film inspired by the Brothers Grimm tale. The movie is also just the latest of Disney's many upcoming live-action remakes following the recent release of The Little Mermaid.

The Snow White remake is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on March 22, 2024.
