I've been upgrading my old laptop from my freshman year lately, and I've discovered something quite interesting that I wanted to share with everyone to see if anyone else has encountered a similar situation.

My computer was incredibly slow whenever I opened many tabs or ran demanding educational software. I thought it was because of insufficient RAM, so I planned to buy more. But when I took it to a shop for inspection, I found out that the hard drive was still an HDD, not an SSD, even though the salesperson had casually mentioned it was "very fast" when I bought it. After switching to a SATA SSD , the boot speed and application loading speed were completely different; it felt like I had a brand new computer, even though the CPU and RAM configuration remained the same.

Since then, I've paid closer attention to checking the type of hard drive when buying or upgrading a computer, especially for students who often buy used or cheap replacement machines and don't always pay attention to this part. Has anyone here ever encountered a similar situation, thinking their computer was slow due to weak specs but it turned out to be because of an unupgraded hard drive? Or does anyone have any other experience upgrading an old computer without buying a whole new laptop? I'm planning to learn more before making a decision.
