I- And … too, and … either, but, and so, and neither:
· De noi 2 cau khang dinh voi nhau (affirmative sentence) dung: and … too va and so.
Ex: Mark is good looking, and Bob is too = Mark is good looking, and so is Bob.
We joined the party, and they did too = We joined the party, and so did they.
· De noi 2 cau phu dinh voi nhau (negative sentence) dung: and … either va and neither.
Ex: I wasn’t a good student, and they weren’t either = I wasn’t a good student, and neither were they.
Luu y: Khi dung and so va and neither thi phai co dao ngu.
· De noi mot cau khang dinh va mot cau phu dinh lai voi nhau, ta dung but.
Ex: Bob is angry, but Amy isn’t.
II- Too, so, not either, neither:
· De dong y voi 1 su khang dinh (an affirmative statement) thi dung too hoac so.
Ex: A: I thought the test was really hard
B: I did too/ So did I.
· De dong y voi 1 su phu dinh (negative statement) thi dung not either hoac neither.
Ex: A: I couldn’t do the math homework.
B: I couldn’t either/ Neither could I.
III- Both … and; Neither … nor; va … not only … but also:
1) I’m good at art. So is she.
è Both I and she are good at art.
è Not only I but also she is good at art.
è Either I or she is good at art.
2) They didn’t come. We didn’t either.
è Both they and we didn’t come.
è Not only they but also we didn’t come
è Neither they nor we came.
3) He speaks English well. He writes English well.
è He not only speaks but also writes English well.
(Ghi chu: Cai nao khac nhau thi dat o giua not only … but also, cai nao giong thi dat o ngoai. Vi du nhu cau tren: giong: He va English well; khac: speaks va writes => dat speaks va writes o giua not only … but also: not only speaks but also writes. )
