On the afternoon of September 17, 2024, pager explosions occurred in multiple locations in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, as well as in the southeast and northeast parts of the country. According to the latest information, these electronic device explosions have caused over 3,000 casualties. The devices that were detonated in Lebanon include not only walkie-talkies and radio receivers but also solar panels, electronic locks, portable and car-mounted radios, and there are even reports of kitchen appliances exploding.

Worth noting is that, according to Reuters, the exploded radios, walkie-talkies, and handheld radios all came from the same company, ICOM, a Japanese-based radio communication and telephone company, and clearly displayed "Made in Japan." According to industry analysts, the detonated walkie-talkies were definitely "enhanced," and it is highly probable that the enhancement was to the battery component. It is likely that these devices were modified before leaving the factory. Without the original code, it is virtually impossible for thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies to explode simultaneously.

Looking around, electronic devices are everywhere. The explosion incident that Lebanon has experienced will certainly alter the way people perceive electronics in the future. This incident serves as a wake-up call to people all over the world. Could headphones, smartwatches, mobile phones, and head-mounted VR devices all be potential bombs? It can be foreseen that Japanese-made communication devices may no longer be trusted internationally, and Middle Eastern countries will certainly be hesitant to risk using Japanese-made electronics after this incident.
