In this increasingly interconnected world, relationships between different countries are at the forefront of the effort to improve the future for the planet’s population. Nevertheless, challenges unfold across the globe, threatening this goal. I generally agree that to realize it, strong international relations are more important than ever, though there are opposing views.

Some may opine that these days, establishing positive multilateral relations is not necessary. To support their view, they highlight current conundrums that remain untangled despite drawing international attention and concern. One of such issues is the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, where there seems to be no foreseeable end. This war has persisted in the face of a multitude of endeavors from the international community, ranging from economic sanctions to mediation efforts. It is, therefore, understandable that a number of people adopt a cynical outlook toward the value of relationships between nations.

I, on the other hand, firmly believe that to resolve problems facing the world, multilateral cooperation is more imperative than ever. Certain issues, such as the instability of the energy market, are only settled when nations reach a consensus to address mankind’s gigantic demand. If, instead of sowing division due to petty ideological differences, countries seek to respect each other, the ordinary folk would not have to deal with currently soaring energy prices and inflation. In addition, international cooperation is the last safeguard against armed conflicts, which only trend towards extreme lethality owing to modern weapons. Pertaining to my example of the war in Ukraine, it was arguably a lack of mutual agreement among the countries involved that led to the consequence. Now, another Cold War may be looming over the horizon, and the prospect of modern-day peace seems slimmer than ever. Clearly, the absence of friendly sentiments between countries results in catastrophic implications.

In conclusion, while international cooperation has shown its value in the past, the global challenges arising nowadays only affirm its necessity more deeply. It is my hope that countries recognize the true significance of strong multilateral relations and work to foster them together.
