In this day and age, thanks to the fast-paced development of education to keep pace with the growing demand for highly skilled labor, subjects at school have long been a matter of concern. While many people agree that History plays a pivotal role at school, I personally believe that in this modern society, it is better for students to be equipped with more knowledge related to Science and Technology.
On the one hand, having a good grasp of History does wonders for students in their way of learning. If people are aware of how their ancestors did with the hope of protecting the countries, they will appreciate more the value and freedom that they are fortunately having today. Moreover, students can learn from the failure that their predecessors had experienced in order to gain more experience in forming a sustainable country. Take the Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam as an example. When being invaded by the French, they had the wrong move with the decision of not attacking when they had already had great opportunities and chose to sign a treaty with France without any consent from citizens. From this inconsiderate decision, people nowadays are aware of the importance of the connection between the government and citizens, also the power of making wise decisions.
On the other hand, it is more vital for students to know more about the world by acquiring knowledge of Science and Technology. In the contemporary world, people can easily witness the emergence of new jobs performed mostly by computers or robots. This will lead to the fact that the rate of unemployment will increase dramatically because of the supersedure of machines. As a result, in order to survive in this competitive world, employees are encouraged to have knowledge of Science and Technology to operate those automatic machines, or else they will be fallen behind. In addition, people who have understandings of Science and Technology are believed to look for the future and tend to have more innovative ideas to improve their level of performance at work rather than looking at the past.
In conclusion, even though there are some aforementioned benefits of learning History, I am of the opinion that students must have a better insight into the most up-to-date subjects namely Science and Technology.
