The film
The film “Journey to the West” always fascinates me though I have seen it many times. It is a fairy story about the long journey make by four people to the place of Buddha. They have overcome eighty-one challenges and beaten many wicked people to get true Buddhism books for saving mankind from fighting each other aggressively. Above all, it leads us to the realization of human individual desertions and our long life self-training process to get rid of the selfishness to perfect ourselves.

The combination of the East’s body of folklores and the book of the same title written by Wu Cheng'en makes the plot of “Journey to the West”. It is considered a great work of Chinese filmmakers, gathering over a hundred actors and beautiful actresses. Among them is the talented Liu Xiao Ling Tong who plays the active and faithful monkeyman Sun Wukong, the hero of the film besides the exemplary monk - Xuanzang, the pigman - Zhu Bajie and monsterman - Sha Wujing. The film’s background is set in the year BC with the scences of paradise, hell, the waterworld and man from other majestic holylands. This famous film shows the good preparation and good imagination of human beings.

In short, besides its success in art, the film, in fact, advises man to live a nicer life.

My hobbies
Everyone has hobbies. I do too. Hobbies bring our lives joy and fun. Some hobbies go well with our sadness, which relieves significantly the sadness. Do you think so? I wonder whether my hobbies are the same as yours or not. Have a look at some of my hobbies.

For colors, I love blue which is the color of hope. Others think red is the color of luck, but it is not the reason why I am interested in this color. The very reason is because it symbolizes my favorite Manchester United. I also like black although people think it is dark and gloomy. To me, dark represents the maturity in life. My last favorite color is white, which is innocence, purity. A large number of people like this kind of color. I am also one of them.

Art is indispensable in everyday life. Art includes music, movies, plays, and paintings etc., each of which have various idols. People often admire some idols in life who may come from these fields of art. This is because they are well-known and have much influence on others’ thoughts and styles of life.

Actually I am not so fashionable. For fashion, I like what is simple comfortable. The contrast between the white and black color is my favorite style. It, in my opinion, suits me.
Food and drinks are also the interests of everyone. The hobby varies from one another. I like trying special food from different regions. I always love the food which symbolizes my region. Eating in a big restaurant is so interesting and is one of my free time hobbies; however, it costs a great deal.

Above are my hobbies. What are yours? Share and have fun!

Value of traveling
Is traveling an educative experience?

There are many reasons for travel.

When it involves a short trip or a vacation away from home, it is generally for the purpose of building up health resistance, or for relaxation, or to escape, temporarily, from the monotonous rounds of a daily existence in which there is very little time for change from regular schedules. The human being realizes that variety adds zest to living. Travel supplies variety.

Travel can have its other values. When you travel you see new faces and talk to strangers. Such experience is a challenge to your ability to mingle with various kinds of people, especially if they are not of the same type as those to which you are accustomed in your own local environment. You will meet people about whom you have only vaguely read or heard. It is prophesied that such experiences will erase many of the misunderstandings and criticisms.

Real acquaintance often dispels petty jealousies, unreasonable, dislikes, intolerant attitudes, and silly prejudices.

How I spent my last holiday
I usually take holiday every summer. My last holiday is the best one I have ever spent.

I am usually on holiday with my family, but it was the first time I spend a one-week holiday with my friends. We intended to make our trip unique, so we set up a plan and prepare everything ourselves. According to the plan, we firstly went to my close friend’s house which is located in a beautiful countryside. His family owns a big orchard. When arriving there, we excitedly took a walk in the orchard. We also helped my friend’s father to water fruit trees and weed the garden. Then, his mother cooked a big meal for us with natural ingredients from the garden. Life was very peaceful there; the people were friendly and helpful. It was so different from the big city where I am living.

After three days staying there, we left for camping. We rode motorbikes to the beach; it took 2 hours to get there. We put up the tent and prepare food. After lunch, we spent many hours swimming and playing volleyball together. In the late afternoon, we walked along the beach to pick up sea shells; I myself found many colorful ones which I would gave to my parents as souvenirs after that. We had an intimate dinner with some seafood; and then we sang some songs together. We have a sound sleep in our tent after a tiring but interesting day. In the next morning, we watch sunrise. It was the most beautiful scene that I had never seen before.

We decided to take a short trip to the huge mountain near the beach because we heard that there was a very ancient pagoda there. The pagoda was located in the peak of the mountain, so we had to climb. This was the hardest thing that I have done until now. We were all very exhausted when reaching the peak. However, it absolutely deserted. The landscape was truly stunning and peaceful. The atmosphere was so fresh that everyone felt like in the heaven. The pagoda was so wonderful and unique.
We returned home afterwards. Although my last holiday was short, it was full of happiness and valuable experience. Furthermore, my friends and I have understood each other more, which helps strengthen our friendship. I will never forget this unforgettable holiday.

Topic: Describe your perfect holiday

Outline:
1. Describe the country you went and the places of interest you visited.
2. Describe how you got to know more about the life of the people there.
3. Describe how you felt when you had to leave the place.

Last year, my family and I spent one whole week in Sri Lanka which was once known as “The Paradise of the East”. It turned out to be the best holiday we had ever had.

Our flight on Singapore Airlines was uneventful. The stewardess managed to distract us with food, duty-free goods and their pretty smiles. As we approached Sri Lanka, I was enchanted by what I saw of the awesome mountains and thousands of coconut trees.

The journey to the hotel in Colombo was interesting though humpy. The driver had to contend not only with the other vehicles but also with the unpredictable dogs, cats, cows and pedestrians. We toured various places of historical and cultural interest. The “Sigiriya Rock”, the home of an ancient king, fascinated me the most. The king had defended his realm from the Rock which was in the shape of a lion. The shaky stairs leading to the castle ruins on top of the rock were not easy to climb. However, the preserved frescoes of beautiful maidens made the climb worthwhile.

The south-western coast of the island is lined with beautiful, white, sun-soaked beaches. The sea was a deep sapphire color, sparkling under the sun on the day of our visit. There were few tourists around and so the beaches were practically deserted.

Most people on the island speak English well. From them, we had an insight of the lives of the local people. I made friends with a teenaged boy called Siri who took me to his village. There, he introduced me to his large family and we played their local games. Form dinner, I was served rice and vegetables grown on their own plot of land. It was much more delicious than the hotel food we had been served. The week passed b too quickly. I was sorry to leave the island which had lived up to its name: “The Paradise of the East.”
